The Eco-Friendly B&B

There are many ways in which we can do our part, however small, to protect the environment and save the Earth for our future generations.

In addition to continuing our primary objective of being one of the best Bed and Breakfast establishments in the United Kingdom, we would also like to be one of the most eco-friendly. However, in order to achieve this second objective, we will need your help and participation. Here are some of the things we can do together:

  1. Switch off lights when not in use.

  1. Turn the television off at the set. Do not leave it on ‘stand-by’ using the remote control. Research has shown that a television on ‘stand-by’ mode consumes up to 60% of the electricity it uses when it is switched on.

  1. Switch off the air-conditioning when you are not in the room. The unit will reach the desired temperature in very little time.

  1. Return towels to the towel rack if you are happy to re-use them and we will only change towels that are left in the bathtub or shower tray.

  1. Unsoiled sheets and pillowcases will be changed every 3 days instead of every 2 days.

  1. Leave unwanted newspapers and other printed materials by the side of your waste bin. We will send them for recycling.

To demonstrate our appreciation of your help and participation, we will double the amount of savings and donate them to non-political UK registered charities for the advancement of medical care at the end of every calendar quarter. To establish the amount for each quarter, we will work out the savings by comparing our utilities bills to the same quarter of the previous year. Over time, we will establish a list of charities and every charity on the list will benefit from our joint effort!

For those who are interested in our progress, you will find up-dates on this webpage. The first result for the quarter ended December 2002 will be available in early April 2003.

Thank you very much for your time and participation.
